Media Literacy in Action! - Meme Contest and Kahoot
The E.P.I.C. project promotes media literacy and critical thinking through meme contests and Kahoot quizzes for students in target high schools.
Part of the project: EPIC - Education for Correct Information
The E.P.I.C. - Education for Correct Information project brought an innovative approach to media literacy, giving students at the target high schools the opportunity to take part in a creative meme contest and interactive sessions on the Kahoot platform. The main goal of this event was to stimulate creativity and develop critical thinking skills among young people, in a fun and educational way.
What is the E.P.I.C. project?
The E.P.I.C. - Education for Correct Information project is implemented by Active Yourope and funded through the Civic Innovation Fund programme, developed by FDSC - the Foundation for the Development of Civil Society, in partnership with the Romanian American Foundation and with the support of the CJI - Centre for Independent Journalism.
The meme contest: creativity and educational messages
Students were challenged to create original memes addressing topics such as:
- media literacy;
- responsible use of technology;
- the importance of critical thinking in the digital age.
Evaluation criteria were based on creativity, originality, and the educational impact of the message conveyed.
Interactive Kahoot quizzes
Using the Kahoot platform, students took part in interactive quizzes, testing their knowledge of:
- online security;
- identifying fake news;
- the impact of social media on everyday life.
These quizzes were organized at class level, and local winners advanced to inter-school competitions, creating a competitive and engaging atmosphere.
Impact of the event
Student participation was impressive, with a large number of entries and quality work. The event demonstrated that modern, interactive methods can make education more attractive and effective. Students gained valuable knowledge about the digital environment and learned to navigate online more safely and responsibly.
The E.P.I.C. project continues to be a successful example in youth education, combining innovation with hands-on learning, and remains a reference initiative in promoting media literacy and critical thinking.
