Intergenerationality and Interculturality: Engaging Young People in the Erasmus Programme
Two Active Yourope members joined an Erasmus+ job shadowing in Portugal on inclusion, interculturality, gender equality and generations.
The Job Shadowing Programme in Portugal: Promoting Social Inclusion and Gender Equality
Under the Erasmus+ Accreditation (project no. 2023-1-RO01-KA121-ADU-000146934), two members of Asociația Active Yourope from Dolj took part in a job shadowing programme in Portugal, hosted by the partner Jead - Associação Digi-Cultural E Recreativa Jovens Europa.
Purpose of the Programme
This mobility was dedicated to promoting social inclusion, interculturality, gender equality and intergenerational relations, with the following objectives:
- improving the understanding of the challenges faced by marginalised groups;
- developing skills for implementing inclusive practices;
- encouraging intercultural dialogue and collaboration between generations;
- raising awareness of gender inequalities and supporting equal opportunities.
Activities and Programme Structure
- Day 1: Introduction and social inclusion
- socialising and ice-breaking activities;
- workshop on the challenges faced by marginalised groups;
- developing inclusive practices through group activities.
- Day 2: Interculturality
- workshop on the importance of intercultural dialogue;
- cultural-exchange activities for understanding diversity;
- presentation of successful intercultural projects.
- Day 3: Gender equality
- workshop on gender equality in the workplace;
- role-play exercises to raise awareness of gender bias;
- tools for promoting gender equality and brainstorming sessions.
- Day 4: Intergenerational relations
- workshop on the benefits of collaboration between generations;
- panel discussions and planning of an intergenerational event;
- practical activities for building bridges between generations.
- Days 5-6: Implementation and evaluation
- developing action plans for social inclusion;
- monitoring and evaluating the implementation of these plans;
- closing ceremony and award of participation certificates.
Results of the Programme
Participants gained:
- in-depth knowledge of social inclusion, interculturality, gender equality and intergenerational relations;
- practical skills for implementing inclusive practices in their communities;
- action plans for supporting marginalised people and promoting equality.
Another essential result was the creation of a network of collaborators dedicated to promoting an inclusive and equitable society.
Impact and Conclusions
The job shadowing experience in Portugal gave the members of Asociația Active Yourope a valuable set of knowledge and skills for initiating and sustaining positive change in their communities. It contributes to building a more inclusive, intercultural and equitable environment, aligned with the fundamental values of equality and respect for diversity.
