Job Shadowing in Malta to Strengthen Skills in Adult Education and Social Inclusion
In September 2025, Active Yourope carried out an Erasmus+ job shadowing in Malta on social inclusion, wellbeing and educational management.
Between 1 and 7 September 2025, Asociația Active Yourope carried out a job shadowing activity in Malta, hosted by the organisation NEW HORIZONS MALTA, under project 2025-1-RO01-KA121-ADU-000339236, implemented through the Erasmus Accreditation in the field of Adult Education. The mobility aimed to strengthen professional skills in social inclusion, adult education, the development of well-being-oriented activities and educational management.
During the activity, the participant directly observed methods and practices used by the host organisation in working with adults from vulnerable backgrounds, with a focus on combating exclusion, promoting tolerance of diversity and creating accessible and motivating learning environments. The barriers that limit disadvantaged adults’ participation in education were analysed, and concrete solutions were identified for supporting them through non-formal methods, experiential activities, storytelling, group-cohesion exercises and techniques for stimulating active involvement.
An important result of the mobility was a deeper understanding of how inclusive educational activities can be designed, adapted to the real needs of adults and seniors. In collaboration with the host organisation’s mentor, principles and tools were analysed for developing a “Wellbeing for Learning” workshop, centred on clearly formulated learning outcomes, formative assessment methods and the integration of personal development into the educational process. At the same time, skills were strengthened in facilitating group activities, increasing learner motivation and developing a sense of belonging within an inclusive learning context.
The mobility also offered the opportunity to observe educational-management and organisational-development processes. Coordination meetings, task-distribution mechanisms, ways of monitoring activities and quality-assurance practices were observed. This experience helps improve Asociația Active Yourope’s capacity to plan strategically, diversify its educational offer and develop international partnerships relevant to adult education.
The knowledge and skills gained will be put to use in the association’s future activities by adapting working methods with vulnerable adults, developing new workshops and training modules, improving dissemination activities and strengthening the organisation’s European dimension. The experience in Malta directly supports the objectives of Asociația Active Yourope’s Erasmus Accreditation regarding inclusion, the quality of training, the development of trainers’ skills and international cooperation.
