The Active Yourope Association continues to create European learning opportunities for adults through the projects it runs under its Erasmus+ accreditation in the field of adult education.

In the third year of the accreditation, a group of five senior adult learners took part in an Erasmus+ mobility in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on active ageing, healthy lifestyles, sustainability, social inclusion and community participation.

The mobility was organised under Erasmus+ project 2025-1-RO01-KA121-ADU-000339236, in cooperation with the host organisation Spolek absolventů a přátel zemědělské školy v Chrudimi z.s.

A European learning experience for seniors

The participants are involved in the adult education activities organised by Active Yourope, including workshops on balanced nutrition, healthy lifestyles, active ageing, sustainability and taking part in community life.

The mobility programme was designed around the specific needs of senior learners and used practical, accessible, experience-based methods. The activities aimed not only at acquiring new knowledge, but also at building confidence in lifelong learning, encouraging social interaction and fostering more active participation in the community.

Urban ecology and the role of green spaces

One of the main threads of the programme was the relationship between green spaces, health and the wellbeing of older people.

Through observation activities, educational visits and group discussions, the participants explored how urban green spaces can support relaxation, movement, socialising and learning. They identified examples of biodiversity, accessibility and environmentally responsible behaviour, and reflected on ideas that could later be adapted for the community in Craiova.

From soil to plate: food and responsible consumption

Healthy eating was linked to agriculture, local traditions and sustainability through the activities on the theme “From Soil to Plate”.

The participants looked at the importance of local and seasonal produce, reducing food waste, and the connection between everyday choices, health and protecting the environment.

The intercultural exchange also made it possible to compare Romanian and Czech food habits and traditions. The seniors were encouraged to identify simple, realistic changes they can make in their daily lives to consume more responsibly.

Water, climate and the responsible use of resources

Another module of the mobility covered the responsible use of water, soil protection, agriculture and climate change.

Through discussions and non-formal activities, the participants examined their own habits and how individual actions can help protect natural resources.

One concrete outcome of the activity was a jointly written code of sustainable behaviour, built on simple commitments the participants can keep up and promote after returning to Romania.

Active ageing and community participation

The Erasmus+ mobility for seniors also placed strong emphasis on tackling social isolation and on valuing the life experience of older people.

In the workshop “I can contribute to my community”, each participant reflected on their own skills, experiences and stories that can be shared with others.

The storytelling and intercultural exchange activities opened up conversations about family, nature, traditions, community and the bond between generations. The central message was that seniors are not only beneficiaries of education, but can become valuable resources for their own communities.

Healthy lifestyle and wellbeing

Movement, emotional balance and social relationships were addressed through learning activities that also took place outdoors.

Educational walks, observation exercises and the “My Wellbeing Map” activity helped the participants identify the habits, relationships, places and activities that help them keep an active and balanced life.

Each participant was encouraged to set concrete habits they want to keep up after returning home.

From the Erasmus+ experience to activities for the Craiova community

The final stage of the programme was devoted to reflection, evaluation and the transfer of results.

The participants revisited the personal goals they had set at the start of the mobility and discussed the changes in their confidence, participation, environmental responsibility and willingness to keep learning.

In the transfer workshop, they put forward ideas for activities that can be developed for seniors in Craiova, such as educational walks in green spaces, workshops on responsible consumption and intergenerational activities built on stories and life experiences.

Erasmus+ - learning has no age limit

The Prague mobility confirms one of the key commitments the Active Yourope Association has made through its Erasmus+ accreditation: widening senior adults’ access to European learning opportunities and developing educational programmes tailored to their needs.

For Active Yourope, adult education means not only gaining skills, but also building connections, participation and wellbeing, and rediscovering the confidence that learning can continue at any age.
